Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a PhD student for the research project “Co-creation, implementation, and testing of a usable intervention to prevent mental health issues and staff turnover among teachers.” The project is funded by Forte and conducted in collaboration with Linköping and Umeå universities and the Network for Sustainable Teaching. The research you will conduct, within the framework of the research project, will involve developing an organizational-level intervention to prevent mental health issues and staff turnover among teachers in preschool and primary school, as well as conducting feasibility and pilot studies of the intervention together with leaders and practitioners from the school world. The research will involve the use of both qualitative and quantitative methods. You will also write scientific articles based on collected data and take courses as part of your doctoral education. The work requires good planning, analytical skills, independent work, as well as teamwork. Another important part of the work is to communicate with both international researchers and various stakeholders in the school world. Therefore, very good knowledge of English (both spoken and written) is required. Since the work will involve Swedish data collection and co-writing an intervention in Swedish, very good knowledge of Swedish (spoken and written) is also required.
Doctoral Education
Doctoral education comprises four years of full-time studies and leads to a doctoral degree. Within the framework of your doctoral employment, you may have departmental duties of a maximum of 20% of full-time distributed over the entire education period. Departmental duties usually involve teaching at the undergraduate and advanced levels.
Eligibility
To be admitted to doctoral education, basic eligibility and, where applicable, the specific eligibility established in the general study plan for the doctoral subject are required.
Basic eligibility for doctoral education is met by those who:
- have obtained a degree at the advanced level
- completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 higher education credits at the advanced level, or otherwise acquired substantially equivalent qualifications within or outside the country
Specific eligibility for doctoral education is met by those who:
- have completed courses of at least 90 higher education credits in psychology at the undergraduate level and
- at least 60 higher education credits at the advanced level in psychology, of which courses of at least 15 higher education credits in scientific methods and a thesis of at least 15 higher education credits,
- or otherwise acquired knowledge that corresponds to the above requirements
Assessment Criteria
Among the applicants who meet the requirements for basic and specific eligibility, selection will be based on a comprehensive assessment of the applicant's ability to benefit from doctoral education. Particular emphasis will be placed on the applicant's previous theses and degree projects, any research-related work experience, and experience of quality development work in or with schools, particularly from an organizational and management perspective. Personal suitability and other relevant qualifications will also be considered.
Applicants should demonstrate a clear interest in issues related to schools, teachers' working conditions, and health. Experience in leading change and quality development work within schools is particularly meritorious.
Furthermore, a high degree of results and goal orientation, good collaboration skills, and well-developed planning and initiative abilities are sought. Experience of multidisciplinary academic collaborations, work and organizational psychology, participation in research projects, coding and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and writing scientific texts are also meritorious.
